financial assistance for children with disabilties

You’re Invited!

A guest post today. It really speaks for itself. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi! I’m writing to invite you, your family and friends to the first annual Ohio Idols for Independence benefit concert. Our goal is to raise thousands of dollars to help kids with cerebral palsy find their voice at home, at school and in their communities.

This event is close to my heart because my daughter, Adriana, lives with cerebral palsy. While she falls on the severe end of CP, the amazing advancements in technology have given her the gift of independent mobility and communication.

I believe when kids with CP find their voice, regardless of physical ability, they experience true independence. Some kids find their voice through music, sports or dance. Other kids, like Adriana, need specialized care and equipment to find their voice. And as many of you know, these things are expensive. Proceeds from the event go to The MJB Foundation to provide funding for children so they get the specialized care, equipment and services they need just to be a kid.

Please join us in helping kids with CP by purchasing your tickets TODAY! Tickets are just $16 and they are available online at www.ohio-idol.com. You can also purchase tickets directly through me by writing a check to The MJB Foundation for the number of tickets you want. Just send me an email and I’ll bring them to you.

If you have any questions, you can email me or call me at 614-309-0799. For information about The MJB Foundation visit www.mjbfoundation.org.

Thank you!

Time To Get Going

Monday, July 18th, 2011 Posted in Events, History | No Comments »

I have to confess to a little let down after Golf for Joy this year. We had a terrific turn out, a beautiful day, a great speaker, and on a personal note, my speech seemed to be a  big hit. I’ve given talks that were smoother, and came off more polished, but I think the content this year was a big hit, and that felt kind of cool. To make things even better we raised more money than ever before at Golf for Joy and now have $6,000 more to help us share our Joy with children with challenges. I am very grateful for all of your support.

So, after a lull I came into today wanting to get going, get to the next project, the next thing and well, Monday didn’t come off as planned and I was very frustrated, ready to throw in the towel on the day.

But a good friend gave me a shout out this morning, just when I needed it, and it was the perfect remedy to get me back on track. Thanks Rocky!

This year we had another first at Golf for Joy, we shot video of the speeches, so I was fortunate to be able to go back and revisit that moment. Perhaps you’d like to take a look too…

We hope to have a lot going on at The MJB Foundation in the coming year. There’s a lot to plan, and a lot to do.

Here we go…

A Good Time is Had by All

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011 Posted in Events | No Comments »

We are just days away from our 17th annual Golf for Joy. As many of you know I play hockey with a great group of fellas who are also very enthusiastic supporters of The MJB Foundation.  Last night, post game I asked a few of the guys who are coming out this year to take a few minutes to talk about Golf for Joy.

As you can see we always have a lot of fun and it is a great group of guys.

While the field is set for this year’s tournament we still want to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to join us for our post tournament gathering where we’ll tell plenty of stories, share plenty of laughs and talk about why we all get together every year – all while raising money for a great cause.

We’d love to have you join us!

Oh and, while the current Bail Bonds team does not have a current website, we are certain we have fans. (or wives and kids anyway) If you’d like to learn a little more about the team feel free to check out our first attempts at websites here and here.

Grandma’s Invitation

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011 Posted in Events | No Comments »

Today, Meghan’s Grandma shares her memories and offers her invitation to Bowl for Joy.

Without further adieu.

Hi! I am the grandmother.  I was there 18 years ago February 5th for the birth of the twins.  Funny the birth was an emergency C-section which should have taken just a few minutes.  Those of us waiting kept going to the window of the nursery and looking for the baby. (They didn’t know it was twins.)  The stupid people in the nursery kept saying “Oh you mean the twins.”  “NO! Not the twins!!”  Finally I could stand it no more and went to the back by the delivery rooms.  There I met the doctor who had come for the surgery.  He explained to me how one of the twins was healthy and pinked up right away but the other was in jeopardy!

So, here we were.  Looking in the window, finally, at the twins!  Kailey was great! (As you all know her to be.)  Meghan was still, on a respirator and not expected to live the night.  Hard to believe it was 18 years ago.  The heartbreak comes back like it was yesterday.

Having a handicapped child is tiring, frustrating, rewarding, joyous, sad, all the emotions you can name.  Losing that child is a tragedy.  During her short life Meghan had the love and devotion of a lot of people.  Her family was able to provide her with the special equipment she needed to function.  How different it would have been if that ability was not there.

The MJB Foundation raises money to assist parents of handicapped children with the ability to provide special equipment; a special tricycle, money towards a special wheelchair, etc.  The money is raised by activities that are family friendly.  A special family works hard on the activities of the MJB to keep the spirit and joy of their daughter alive.

Please join us February 12, 2011 at Sawmill Lanes, 4825 Sawmill Road for Bowl for Joy!  Teams of 5 can bowl together.  $30.00/person and the money goes for that special equipment for those special kids.

I am Meghan’s Grandmother…

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I am Meghan’s grandmother. Each year I am awed by the commitment that Jim and Annette have to this remembrance of their daughter. I am one of the lucky mothers who never had to have a memorial for a daughter. When I married Annette’s dad I became the mother of four daughters! Annette and Jim worked very hard with their brain damaged daughter. They loved her as much as Kailey the “perfect” twin. I remember when they were born. We weren’t expecting twins. Those of us in the waiting room got really nervous when the emergency C-section took a very long time. Each time we went to the nursery to inquire, they asked if we were talking about the twins! How dumb were those people! Finally, “grandma” went into the delivery area again to inquire and ran into the OB. He told me all about the twins and the fragile state of one of them. Twins! We thought she (Annette) looked big and were we right! That day began the struggle to keep Meghan alive. For 15 months the family worked with tube feedings, medically alert night times, and the heartbreak of a handicapped child. Hard to imagine it was more than 15 years ago. Rest in peace little one. We will continue to remember you with our golf outing!
